My name is Ashleigh Brooke Hilton. I am the owner of brooke + owens. We are a small town boutique with BIG style!! We are born out of a desperate situation and with your support have turned into a dream come true!
I have a degree in Fashion Merchandising, worked at one of the largest department stores in the country, and landed my dream job in buying & product development at said department store feeling pretty good about life at that point!
Within 6 months of landing that dream job, I started having weird things happen. I was having hang ups with my speech, couldn't do basic math in my head, and numbness on the left side of my body.
Due to repeatedly being misdiagnosed, I was forced to step down from my position leaving me with no job and too sick to work. However, the need to have income and pay bills didn't stop. I took what savings I had left and bought a box of jewelry to start attending farmers markets/flea markets selling jewelry when I was well enough. With the help of my (now) husband, we lived as basic as we could to save money and reinvest the profits to grow the inventory in hopes of making a real income. I was able to work, but I wasn't able to work someone else's schedule. It was the most stressful situation I've ever been through.
After a large knot started showing out of the front of my neck, I was finally able to find a doctor who ran the tests necessary to find the real problem. I had a cancerous tumor the size of a tangerine compressing my ceratoid artery. We were able to successfully remove it along with all the cancer (thyroid cancer to be exact). After 8 months, most of the speech and math problems along with the numbness were gone!
Even though I was feeling remarkably better, I still wasn't able to work someone else's schedule due to some of the residual effects of what my body had been through. We decided to go full force at this boutique to see if we could make it happen and with a lot of hard work and a lot of help from my husband, we did in fact make it happen.
We now have an adorable brick and mortar boutique location, a website, and host Facebook Live Sales multiple times a week. We've replaced my income and I feel like a functioning member of society again.
I'm so thankful to all of our customers/friends. You ladies helped me count back change in the beginning when I would get confused. You were forgiving if I was too sick to open or make an event. Many of you reached out to make sure I was okay. I've developed more friendships through this process than I've ever had in my life.
That is how our boutique was born and we truly appreciate each purchase because you are allowing me to continue achieving my goals despite a medical situation that would have derailed it otherwise. My family and I sincerely THANK YOU!
